Peter Canavan is a Director and Head of the Planning Division, leading the firm’s planning team and its provision of strategic planning advice. A Chartered Town Planner with more than 18 years’ experience across the public and private sectors.

Peter specialises in strategic planning, Local Plan preparation and examination, site promotion, housing land supply and the development of planning strategies for major projects. He has advised landowners, developers, universities and public-sector bodies, representing clients at Local Plan examinations, planning inquiries and Development Consent Order hearings.

His work combines high-level strategic advice with hands-on project delivery. This includes planning policy and evidence analysis, development appraisals, pre-application strategy, planning statements, stakeholder engagement and the coordination of complex development proposals. Drawing on his experience of both plan-making and development management, Peter helps clients understand planning opportunities and constraints, respond effectively to policy and regulatory requirements, and develop clear, evidence-led strategies for progressing their projects.
