Vacancy - Graduate Building Surveyor

We are seeking a Graduate Building Surveyor to join our thriving Building Consultancy team. The successful candidate will both service our existing client base and be part of our ambitious growth plans. Working in all aspects of building surveying to; surveys, dilapidations, project work, party wall and much more. This role would be ideal for an APC candidate who is looking to broaden experience.

The Opportunity

We currently have an opening in our thriving Building Consultancy Team for a Graduate Building Surveyor. The successful candidate will join a busy team of surveyors mainly working in the education, leisure and care sectors covering the full range of Building Surveying services. The
successful candidate will both service our existing client base and be part of our ambitious growth plans.

You will have the opportunity of working in all aspects of building surveying to include; surveys; dilapidations; project work; party wall and much more so is ideal for an APC candidate who is looking to broaden experience.

Whilst we are fully supportive of flexible working, given the Junior nature of the position we firmly believe the best way for our graduates to learn is within an office environment so the successful candidate must be willing to spend the bulk of their time working from our Cheltenham HQ.

Job Purpose and Scope

The Graduate Building Surveyor is a key role within the Building Consultancy team responsible for assisting the team to deliver projects to support the company’s growth strategy. The role will involve supporting and assisting the division in delivering pre-acquisition surveys; dilapidation claims; contract administration and project management; party wall consultancy and fire reinstatement valuations. The role will involve working on a wide variety or both period and contemporary buildings in a variety of sectors giving a great grounding in the Building Surveying discipline.

Job Objectives

Financial:
• Following a period of training and integration consistent contribution to delivery of team fee targets.
• Following a period of integration and system training, support with projects, including liaising with clients, and project tender preparation. 
• To support other members of the Surveying team.
• To be an ambassador for the company, growing genuine relationships with stakeholders.

 

People:
• To proactively manage your own training needs, with our support, in accordance with your Training Plan, APC and CPD requirements.
• To work collaboratively within the surveying team and across other sectors of the business as the need arises. 
• To learn our systems and become an IT Champion and assist other staff.

Customer:
• Support existing client relationships.
• Achieve high standards of customer care.
• Assist with and prepare Surveys.
• Assist with and prepare Dilapidations Claims.
• Assist with and prepare Party Wall Notices and Awards.
• Assist with and prepare Fire Reinstatement Valuations.
• Assist with the design, specification and management of projects.
• Assist with business development, client contact, market research and client meetings.
• Participate in networking activities run both by Evans Jones and External organisations.
• In conjunction with our Marketing Manager develop your own social media presence to promote Evans Jones.

Product and Process:
• To adhere to standard company policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the company’s strategic goals.
• To assist your line manager in developing new products and services.

Person Specification

KNOWLEDGE

Essential:
• RICS accredited degree in Surveying.
• A high standard of Maths and English is required A level passes at level C (or equivalent).
• A good understanding of the principles of the core BS disciplines: Dilapidations; Contract Admin; Surveys.
Desirable:
• Eligibility for RICS APC assessment.
• Basic understanding of the principles of Party Wall Surveying.

EXPERIENCE

Essential: 
• None
Desirable:
• 1-2 years post qualification relevant experience.
• Experience of working remotely and in a physical office environment.

SKILLS

Essential: 
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for Building Surveying and thirst for more knowledge.
• Demonstrable interest in planning and an inquisitive mind.
• Self-motivated, using own initiate and able to see tasks through to a successful conclusion, including meeting challenging deadlines where necessary.
• Ability to be resourceful and able to research, gather and distribute information as necessary.
• Highly motivated to become a Chartered Building Surveyor and willing to drive the APC process.
• Good knowledge of the APC assessment process and its requirements for graduates.
• Full Driving Licence.
Desirable: 
• Understanding of the English Planning system and its application.
• Proficient in ICT, including Microsoft office, adobe, zoom etc.
• Proficient in AutoCAD LT.
