Project: Hartpury College.
Sector: Offices / commercial.
Involvement: Sketch proposal for new office accommodation.
Status: Feasibility.
The site is located with in the grounds of Hartpury College just outside Gloucester.
The colleges brief was for a new office building of approximately 2000sqm. To sit on a prominent site near to the entrance to the main college campus.
The site is located at the end of the main vehicular access to the site and as such the building will be one of the first that visitors to the college will see.
The grounds of the college are extensive with large areas of open space and well established landscaping and substantial trees.
The building was to be sited near to an Oak tree and it was our intention that the tree form the centre piece of the new courtyard to be formed between the proposed building and the existing college buildings.
We also took inspiration from the form the tree and proposed a three story glazed entrance area where the roof was supported on a series of timber columns with branches supporting the roof in the same way they support the canopy of a tree.
