Evans Jones were appointed to complete an Access Audit of College Lake Nature Reserve.

  • Location:
  • College Lake Nature Reserve, Nr. Tring
  • Service:
  • Access Audits

The reserve comprises 65 hectares of reclaimed chalk quarries now preserved for wildlife.

The site comprises many miles of countryside paths allied to visitor attractions such as a visitor centre, café, bird hides, education centre and external exhibition spaces.

The site presents unique challenges in creating an accessible visitor experience due to the steeply sloping ground created by a former quarry landscape.

Many of the features fall outside general best practice guidance, but we were able to use our knowledge of ergonomic research to devise creative solutions to many of the barriers found.

" Evans Jones did a thorough job assessing our nature reserve, which presents some particular access challenges. Their advice was clear, practical and really focussed on what was reasonable and helped us understand how to make judgements about access challenges and opportunities. The report contained just the right amount of context and background to help us grasp the issues and required priorities. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Evans Jones. "
