The production of Travel Plans, or Green Travel Plans, as they are often referred to is an essential document which must be submitted with any significant application for residential, commercial, retail, recreational or mixed use development or redevelopment scheme.
A well written travel plan should be a “live” document regularly reviewed and updated. The purpose is to ensure that companies and property occupiers formulate a strategy for reducing dependency upon the private motor car.
Measures frequently recommended include:
- Shower facilities for staff — encouraging travel to work via bike
- Secure bike racks
- Web sites emphasising public transport routes rather than advertising “free parking”
- Subsidising public transport costs
- Formulating a car sharing scheme for staff
The production of a well thought out travel plan can help to justify reduced parking standards.
At Evans Jones we have prepared successful green travel plans for a wide range of development types, including business premises, hotels, airports and leisure facilities.
The above are a small sample of policies frequently incorporated into our travel plans.
