Local Plans and Unitary Development plans are in the process of being phased out and replaced by Local Development Frameworks.
The new planning system of local development frameworks has been designed to streamline the local planning process and promote a proactive, positive approach to managing development.
The key aims of the new system are:
- Flexibility
- Strengthening community and stakeholder involvement in the development of local communities
- Front loading of key decisions in the preparation of plans
- Sustainability appraisals
- Programme management, and
- Soundness — testing the plan against simple criteria to show it is fit for purpose.
If these steps are all implemented to appropriate standards then the new system of local development frameworks will speed up the plan making process and be more transparent to members of the public.
As with the old system it is essential that land owners / companies / individuals take action to ensure that the plan works for them. This includes seeking to have a development site either included or excluded as the case may be or even supporting or objecting to a single policy of the plan.
Evans Jones planning has many years experience working with local authorities in the preparation of either supporting or objecting representations. For this new system to function for the good of all it is essential that all affected by development at every level take an interest in and become engaged in the planning system.
Evans Jones provides assistance to both private and commercial clients in either supporting or objecting to specific policy or policies of local plans, unitary development plans, local development frameworks and structure plans etc.
