Ashford Borough Council were experiencing a backlog in the determination of planning applications. The authority needed additional capacity to assist with this backlog of applications.

Evans Jones had already assisted the Council with Public Inquiries and Enforcement appeals. Evans Jones were approached by the Council to help clear a backlog of approximately 30 of their more complex cases. Once instructed we set up our own internal project team to consider applications and sign off before return to the local authority. This included acting as planning officer on behalf of Ashford Borough Council, liaising with applicants and/or their agents, arranging and conducting site visits, assessing proposals, and making recommendations as to whether planning should be approved or refused.
The Results:
Liaising with Ashford Council’s Head of Planning the application backlog was cleared in a matter of months. This relieved pressure on the Planning Department, solving their problem, and improving
the determination time period for applicants. Feedback on the professionalism and engagement of the Evans Jones team was very positive from both the Council and the applicants/their agents.
