Industry responds negatively to Coalition Government planing announcements
Industry reaction to the Coalition Government proposal to empower local communities with the Right to Build has received a luke warm response from the majority of planning and development professional.
The RTPI spokesperson whilst acknowledging that innovative solutions were required to provide affordable housing in rural communities considered that the most appropriate means of delivering housing was via a local plan developed by elected members in partnership with local people and businesses.
The widespread fear is that any development coming forward under the scheme may well not comply with well established development control policies.
Commentary upon the various planning Blogs questions whether local communities would ever be able to obtain a 90% approval rating for new rural development.
Time will tell how the community react to the coalition governments planning polices. As a practice we are seeking to engage with community organisations within parishes to establish whether the Parishes themselves see any scope for investigating development options for the good of the community.
